What is Public Health?
Public Health focuses on protecting and improving the health of communities through prevention, education, and collaboration. Public Health works to prevent disease and injury before they happen by addressing the upstream factors that influence health and wellness.
While the Swinomish Public Health program may be relatively new, our traditional knowledge, life ways, and healing practices have been with us since time immemorial. To honor the strength and self-determination of the Swinomish people, the Public Health program strives to carry on our ancestors’ vision for maintaining healthy reciprocal relations with the land, plants, animals, and people.
Our Vision: A thriving tribal community where culture, equity, and public health work together to support the health and wellness of every generation.
Our Mission: To support tribal members, families, and future generations through culturally responsive public health programs that promote health and wellness, prevention, and health equity.
