Public Works

Swinomish Public Works has two divisions: 1) Facilities Maintenance, and 2) Streets, Utilities, and Special Projects. The goal of Public Works to grow both its skill and knowledge capacity and tribal employment base. This effort enables the Tribe itself to accomplish projects previously performed by outside contractors.

The Facilities Maintenance Division provides day-to-day maintenance of government buildings, lawns, gardens, grounds, cemetery, docks, drainage, and other common areas and facilities. Facilities also provides valuable assistance for special community and staff functions. Facilities staff is working to evaluate energy consumption in all Tribal facilities. This ongoing project will result in individual building action plans that will reduce energy consumption and reduce reliance on outside resources.

The Streets, Utilities and Special Projects Division works on a variety of special projects and assists in building, street, and storm sewer construction projects. This division also performs Swinomish Village street sweeping; storm drain and ditch cleaning; community-wide cleanup projects; cutting, splitting, and hauling firewood for members and elders; maintaining the waste oil shed at the fisherman's dock; and construction project monitoring.
