JOB TITLE: Fisheries Technician II
DEPARTMENT: Fisheries
Position Summary: The Fisheries Technician II is a Temporary full-time, 40 hour per week position assisting with day-to-day functions of the Swinomish Fisheries - Shellfish program, including European green crab monitoring and eradication, shellfish surveys, and other fisheries research projects. The position is supervised by the Fisheries Department Environmental Specialist and collaborates with other department staff. Work is performed both in an office and outdoor field environment. This is a Temporary position; employment will last for six months starting April 1 through September
Minimum Qualifications:

Associates degree or two years of college with course work in biology, environmental science, or fisheries, OR, high school diploma or GED and two years of laboratory or field experience as an assistant to a biologist, zoologist, geologist, or related science discipline

Comfortable with computer use including demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office applications such as Excel, Access, Word, and Outlook

Ability to follow detailed data collection and data quality assurance/quality control procedures and maintain comprehensive notes on field and analytical tasks

Applicant is required to be physically fit and able to walk long distances over uneven surfaces carrying heavy (≤ 50 lbs) equipment

Must be able to work in extreme environments, including deep mud and rough terrain

Applicant must be comfortable on watercraft

Must be capable of humanely euthanizing invasive crab

Commit to working on scheduled field days, including weekends, early mornings and late evenings, sometimes in inclement weather

Possess an active WA driver’s license (or ability to immediately switch to WA driver’s license if moving from out-of-state)
