The Swinomish Indian Tribal Community adopted a Comprehensive Plan in 1996. We are currently in the process of updating this plan. Swinomish Comp Plan 1996 (3.8 Mb) The Swinomish Indian Tribal Community also adopted a new Transportation Plan in 2002. The transportation Plan outlines short-term and long-term goals and solutions to many of the transportation issues surrounding the community. The Swinomish Indian Tribal Community adopted a 10-year Forest Management Plan in 2002. The Forest Management Plan outlines the goals for use and maintenance of one of the valuable natural resources on the Swinomish Indian Reservation. The Swinomish Indian Tribal Community is federally recognized and operates under Constitution and Bylaws adopted in 1936 pursuant to the Indian Reorganization Act of 1934.
The Swinomish Tribe is committed to improving the lives and well being of the tribal members through social and cultural programs, education, economic development, and resource protection.
The Swinomish Indian Tribal Community is located on Fidalgo Island (gateway to the San Juan Islands) in Skagit County of Washington State about 70 miles north of Seattle. The Planning Office is located across the Swinomish Channel from the town of LaConner.
